When I first began writing this weekly column 5 1/2 years ago, I had no idea how important it would be to some in the community or how much I would enjoy it. You may not know or remember (as I believe I have previously shared in this column), I wanted to be a rabbi when I was growing up. And although that did not happen, I have seen this column like my weekly sermon.
In the early days of this column, as we were struggling through COVID, my goal was to bring our community together, give support and comfort, and share my perspective on the events of the day. It has brought me great pleasure when community members share how much they've enjoyed reading my columns or how they've gained a different perspective from what I've written.
As time went on, I have used this space to discuss issues like antisemitism, the rise of hate, the impact our Jewish Federation has been making on the lives of people in our community, and many other topics and issues. You may not know this, but my colleagues who run Jewish Federations have a similar column. And over the years, I have seen what other communities have done and how they have evolved in using similar columns to share, in a more meaningful way, different aspects of their respective Jewish Federations.
With this in mind, I'm excited to share that, beginning next week, you will also start hearing from other voices in this column. Moving forward, we will highlight and share messages from both our board members and our staff. This allows us to share highlights, thoughts, and perspectives on the work we are doing and its impact on the community from the people doing the work—our staff and board members.
Don't worry, I will still be sharing my thoughts and insights here… but now it will be a couple of times each month, instead of every week.
