Why I Joined the Board of Governance of the Jewish Federation of the Greater San Gabriel and Pomona Valleys

When I accepted the invitation to join the Board of Governance of the Jewish Federation of the Greater San Gabriel and Pomona Valleys, it was not a decision made lightly. I did so because of my commitment to the continuation and betterment of Jewish life in my region. For me, this is an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to a group that has given me so much across my life.

The Jewish community was a cornerstone of my upbringing. It provided a sense of belonging, a set of morals to live by, and a cultural richness that shaped who I am today. As my life has become busier with professional responsibilities and family commitments, I realized just how easy it was to take these values for granted. Joining the Jewish Federation’s board is my way of staying in touch with the ideals I have learned to embrace throughout my life, and to give back to the network that nurtured me in the first place. I want to ensure future generations experience the same sense of connection and purpose that I once did.

The Jewish Federation’s mission resonates deeply with me: to strengthen Jewish identity, support those in need, and build bridges within and beyond our community. In a time where the Jewish people and religion face continued unprecedented challenges, organizations like ours are essential. They remind us that Jewish life is not just about tradition; it is about adapting those traditions to remain relevant and inspiring. By serving on the board, I can help guide these efforts, ensuring that programs we oversee are impactful and practical.

Another reason I joined the Jewish Federation is because of my commitment to Tikkun Olam, the Jewish value of “repairing the world.” This emphasis extends beyond our own community and calls us to act with compassion and justice in the broader world. I see the Federation embodying this initiative time and time again, whether it is through their support of vulnerable populations, their advocacy for equity, and their responses to crises both locally and globally. Being a part of this work allows me to channel my personal values into tangible action, an act I find deeply fulfilling.

Professionally, I bring experience in leadership, process development, and strategic planning. I see these skills as tools to help the Jewish Federation thrive in this rapidly changing landscape. As nonprofits face complex challenges today — financial sustainability, digital engagement, and evolving community needs — my goal is to contribute insights that can improve Federation operations, while maintaining the warmth and accessibility that define our organization. In doing so, I hope to help the Federation remain both stable and innovative.

Finally, joining the board is about legacy. I want my children and all young people in our community to see that involvement matters. Leadership is not about recognition for me. Instead, it is about the opportunity to serve. By stepping into this role, I hope to model the importance of giving time and talent to causes that reflect our deepest values. To me, the Jewish Federation is not just an institution. It is a lifeline for the Jewish community that embraces our people’s present and future, education, and mutual support. Ensuring its strength as a board member has been a great privilege of my life.
